Drawing is my meditation as well as my passion. I love the feeling of my consciousness slipping into that creative zone where everything outside of my studio melts away. Drawing is very much part of who I am and without it I feel incomplete.
Pencil has always been a favourite medium for me as I am able to achieve so many different affects with it; heavy dark lines, soft shadows and fine details. Pencil crayons are however my all-time favourite. My work is quite precise so it appeals to me that they are neat and smudge resistant but blendable and very satisfying to use.
I have been told on numerous occasions that my great love of animals shows in my work. I particularly enjoy capturing the shine on the eyes, nose and fur which always brings the drawing to life.
For portraits I am inspired by the passage of time and the effect it has on faces, making them full of character and age and always interesting to draw. I always look forward to that magical moment when the person comes to life on the paper.
I love to explore, photograph and then draw both urban and rural areas. I see beauty in forgotten places and love the idea that I am helping them to become recognised once more. Again, the passage of time inspires me but also the effects of humans and nature living together; decay, rust, peeling paint, graffiti - I find them more interesting to draw than more conventional subjects.
